Lee Doran

Lee Robert Doran (born 23 December 1981) is a former professional rugby league footballer who represented Ireland at the international level and played for several clubs in the English leagues during the 2000s and 2010s. He primarily occupied the positions of centre, second‑row, and loose forward.

Early life and background
Doran was born in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. He is of Irish descent through his grandparents, which qualified him to play for the Ireland national rugby league team under the grandparent rule.

Club career

  • Oldham (2000–2004) – Doran began his senior career with Oldham, making 112 appearances and scoring 30 tries (120 points).
  • Rochdale Hornets (2005–2006) – He transferred to the Hornets, playing 53 games and adding 10 tries (40 points). He received the club’s “Player of the Year” award in 2005.
  • Widnes Vikings (first spell, 2007) – Doran appeared in 32 matches, scoring 5 tries (20 points).
  • Leigh Centurions (2008) – He made 27 appearances and recorded 10 tries (40 points).
  • Widnes Vikings (second spell, 2009–2010) – Returning to Widnes, Doran added 58 games and 13 tries (52 points).
  • Whitehaven (2011–2014) – He concluded his club career with Whitehaven, playing 100 matches and scoring 18 tries (72 points).

International career
Between 2003 and 2007, Doran earned 11 caps for the Ireland national rugby league team. He was selected for the Ireland training squad and subsequently the final squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.

Retirement
After the 2014 season with Whitehaven, Doran retired from professional rugby league.
