The Lawrence County Courthouse is the seat of government and judicial administration for Lawrence County, Ohio. Located in the county seat of Ironton, the building serves as the central hub for the county's governmental and legal functions. It houses the offices of various county officials, including the County Commissioners, Auditor, Treasurer, Recorder, and Clerk of Courts, as well as courtrooms for the Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas and other related judicial services.
The current courthouse building was completed in 1910, replacing an earlier structure that had served the county since 1851. Designed in the Neoclassical Revival architectural style, the building is characterized by its imposing facade, symmetrical design, and classical elements such as columns, pilasters, and a prominent entrance. Its construction reflected the civic pride and architectural trends prevalent for public buildings in the early 20th century.
Recognized for its architectural significance and its role in the administrative history of Lawrence County, the Lawrence County Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1974. It continues to function as the primary administrative and judicial building for Lawrence County.
