Lauren Holly

Lauren Holly (born October 28 1963) is an American‑Canadian actress and former model. She has appeared in a variety of film, television, and stage productions since the mid‑1980s and is recognized for her roles in both dramatic and comedic works.

Early Life and Education
Lauren Holly was born in Bristol, Pennsylvania, United States, to American parents Edwin Holly and Lillie (née Baird). She spent part of her childhood in Canada after her family relocated, and holds dual American‑Canadian citizenship. Holly attended the University of Toronto, where she studied drama and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985.

Career

Film
Holly made her feature‑film debut in the 1987 drama The Lost Boys, playing the female lead, Star. She subsequently appeared in Dumb and Dumber (1994) as Mary Swanson, a role that garnered mainstream recognition. Other notable film credits include White Fang (1991), The Horse Whisperer (1998), and Mona Lisa Smile (2003).

Television
Holly's television work includes recurring and leading roles. She portrayed Dr. Jillian Hill in the NBC series Picket Fences (1992–1996), for which she received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. From 1998 to 2002, she starred as Dr. Julia Walker in the CBS drama Chicago Hope. More recent television appearances include guest roles on series such as NCIS, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and a recurring role as Dr. Helen Magnus in the Syfy series Sanctuary (2008–2011).

Stage
In addition to screen work, Holly has performed on stage, notably in productions of A Streetcar Named Desire and The Play About the Baby.
