Laura Holgate

Holgate served as the United States Ambassador to the Vienna Office of the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from 2016 to 2017 during the [[Barack Obama]] administration. In this diplomatic role, she represented U.S. interests on issues such as nuclear safety, security, safeguards, and the broader work of the UN in Vienna.

Before her ambassadorship, Holgate was Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism and Threat Reduction on the [[National Security Council]] (NSC) staff from 2009 to 2016. During this period, she was instrumental in shaping and executing U.S. policy to prevent WMD terrorism, including significant involvement in the Nuclear Security Summits.

Her career also includes a tenure as Vice President for Programs at the [[Nuclear Threat Initiative]] (NTI), a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing global catastrophic risks. She also held positions at the [[United States Department of Energy]] and worked as a consultant on national security matters.

Holgate holds a Bachelor of Science degree from [[Princeton University]] and a Master of Science degree from the [[Massachusetts Institute of Technology]] (MIT).

Currently, she serves as Vice President for Materials Risk Management at NTI, continuing her work on preventing the theft or diversion of nuclear and radiological materials globally. Her extensive career underscores a consistent dedication to strengthening international security frameworks and mitigating the dangers associated with WMDs through policy, diplomacy, and practical threat reduction strategies.
