Larry Alexander (c. 1952 – June 2021) was an American politician and community leader who primarily served on the Memphis City Council in Memphis, Tennessee.
Born in Memphis, Alexander was a prominent figure in local politics for over two decades. He was first elected to the Memphis City Council in 1995, representing District 3, and was subsequently re-elected multiple times. During his tenure, he served as Chairman of the City Council for several terms, notably from 2006 to 2007.
As a council member, Alexander was known for his focus on economic development, job creation, and neighborhood revitalization, particularly in underserved areas of Memphis such as Orange Mound. He was a key advocate for various urban development projects and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for his constituents.
In 2007, Alexander launched an unsuccessful campaign for mayor of Memphis. After a period out of public office, he was again elected to the City Council in 2011, serving another term until 2015. Throughout his career, he was recognized for his accessible approach and dedication to community engagement.
Alexander passed away in June 2021 at the age of 69.
