Lanyrd

Lanyrd was an online social networking service designed to facilitate the discovery and organization of professional conferences and events. Launched in 2010, the platform allowed users to create personal profiles, track conference attendance, curate personal schedules, and share information about sessions and speakers. Integration with Twitter enabled users to sign in with their Twitter accounts, automatically generate event listings based on their tweets, and promote their participation across social media.

The service was founded by Oren Livne and several co‑founders, and it operated primarily as a web‑based directory that aggregated conference data through user contributions and partnerships with event organizers. Lanyrd’s functionality included the ability to follow specific conferences, receive updates on agenda changes, and network with other attendees.

In June 2013, Lanyrd was acquired by Eventbrite, a ticketing and event management company. Following the acquisition, Eventbrite integrated certain Lanyrd features into its own platform, and the standalone Lanyrd website was gradually phased out. By 2015, the original Lanyrd service had been discontinued, and its domain redirected to Eventbrite’s site.

Although no longer active, Lanyrd is noted in the history of social networking services as an early example of leveraging social media APIs—particularly Twitter—to enhance event discovery and attendee engagement.
