Kurt Kieß (born February 13, 1942, in Züllichau, then German Reich, now Sulechów, Poland) is a German former politician who represented the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). He served as a member of the Bundestag, the German federal parliament, from 1980 to 1994.
Early Life and Professional Career
Kurt Kieß was born in Züllichau, a town in the former German province of Brandenburg. After the end of World War II, his family settled in West Germany. Kieß pursued a career in education, qualifying as a primary school teacher.Political Career
Kieß joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1968. He quickly became active in local politics in Offenbach, Hesse. He served as a member of the Offenbach city council and held the position of chairman for the local SPD branch.In the 1980 federal election, Kurt Kieß was elected to the German Bundestag. He represented the constituency of Offenbach and was successfully re-elected in 1983, 1987, and 1990, serving a total of four legislative periods. During his time in the Bundestag, Kieß was particularly active in parliamentary committees dealing with education, science, research, and technology. He advocated for policies that supported public education and fostered technological innovation. His parliamentary service concluded in 1994.
