Kudumba Thalaivan (transl. Head of the Household) is a 1962 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by M. A. Thirumugam and produced by Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar under the banner Devar Films. The film stars M. G. Ramachandran, M. R. Radha, and B. Saroja Devi in lead roles.
Release and Reception
The film was released on 15 August 1962. It was a commercial success, running for over 100 days in theatres. The Indian Express praised the performances of the cast.
Plot
The story is set in a wealthy urban family. Velayudam Pillai, the patriarch, spends most of his time playing poker and delegates his responsibilities to his elder son, Somu, who is hard-working but extremely shy. His younger son, Vasu, is an accomplished sportsman with an outgoing personality. When Velayudam Pillai takes in Seeta, the daughter of his deceased driver Ponnusamy (who had saved his life), both sons unknowingly fall in love with the same woman. Seeta reciprocates the love of Vasu, leading to familial conflict.
