Kronach (Haßlach) is a river in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. It is a right-bank tributary of the Haßlach river.
Geography
The Kronach is approximately 8 km (5.0 mi) long as a named river. It is formed from the confluence of the rivers Kremnitz and Grümpel, south of the municipality of Wilhelmsthal. Including its source rivers Kremnitz and Finsterbach, the total length of the Kronach river system is 27.6 km (17.1 mi). From its formation, the river flows in a generally southerly direction to its confluence with the Haßlach at the town of Kronach. The ST2200 road follows the river's valley.
Hydrology
The Kronach has a mean discharge of approximately 1.7 m³/s at the Steinberg gauge. The recorded low flow is 8 L/s, while the average high is 26.4 m³/s, with a record high of 58.4 m³/s recorded in 1947.
Course and Tributaries
The river's source elevation at the confluence of the Kremnitz and Grümpel is about 356 m above sea level (NN). Its mouth at the confluence with the Haßlach in the town of Kronach lies at approximately 305 m above sea level. Water System
The Kronach flows into the Haßlach, which in turn flows into the Rodach, then the Main, then the Rhine, and ultimately into the North Sea.
