Kosaka is a Japanese restaurant located at 220 West 13th Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. It specializes in Edomae-style sushi and omakase dining.
History and Background
The restaurant was established in December 2015. It is helmed by Chef Masatomo Soma, who brings over 30 years of experience, including an apprenticeship under founding chef Yoshihiko Kousaka. The restaurant's name is derived from the chef's surname (Kousaka), with the missing "U" being a stylistic choice.
Cuisine and Dining
Kosaka offers an Edomae-style omakase experience, with fish sourced daily from Japanese markets. The dining room features a 12-seat counter, a few tables, and a classic Japanese aesthetic. Chef Soma is noted for his flexible approach to the omakase format, tailoring the experience to the pace of the guests rather than locking the entire counter into a single synchronized service.
