Kokkoku: Moment by Moment is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Seita Horio. It was serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Morning Two magazine from May 2008 to September 2014, with its chapters collected into eight tankōbon volumes. The series blends elements of mystery, science fiction, and supernatural thriller.
Plot
The story follows Juri Yukawa, an unemployed young woman whose family possesses a secret ability to stop time. When her brother Tsubasa and nephew Makoto are kidnapped by a cult called the "Genuine Love Society," her grandfather uses a mysterious stone to freeze time, allowing the family to move freely in a world called "Stasis." As they navigate this frozen world to rescue their family members, they encounter other individuals who can also move through Stasis, as well as grotesque monsters known as "Handlers" that reside within it.
Anime Adaptation
A 12-episode anime television series adaptation was produced by Geno Studio and broadcast from January 7 to March 25, 2018, on Tokyo MX and BS11. It was directed by Yoshimitsu Ōhashi, with scripts by Noboru Kimura and character designs by Yasuomi Umetsu. The opening theme song is "Flashback" performed by MIYAVI Vs KenKen, and the ending theme is "Asayake to Nettaigyo" by Boku no Lyric no Boyomi. Amazon Video streamed the series worldwide exclusively. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for home video release in North America with an English dub, and Anime Limited acquired distribution rights for the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Manga Publication
Kodansha USA licensed the manga for digital release in North America. The series comprises eight volumes published between August 2009 and October 2014 in Japan, with English digital releases beginning in October 2017.
