Koeppe

Koeppe typically refers to:

  • Leonhard Koeppe (1884–1969): A German ophthalmologist who made significant contributions to the field of ophthalmology. He is most notably recognized for his description of certain inflammatory signs observed in the eye, which were subsequently named after him.
  • Koeppe nodules: In ophthalmology, these are small, whitish or grayish-white nodules found specifically on the pupillary margin of the iris. They are composed of inflammatory cells and are a hallmark sign of acute anterior uveitis, particularly in granulomatous forms such as sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, and syphilis. Their presence indicates active inflammation within the anterior chamber of the eye. They are differentiated from Busacca nodules, which are located on the iris stroma away from the pupillary border.
