Koçtepe (Kurdish: Hopak) is a village in the Kâhta District of Adıyaman Province, Turkey. It is located approximately 50 km from the Adıyaman city center and 12 km from the Kâhta district center, at an elevation of about 830 meters.
Etymology: The village's former name, recorded in 1946 records, was Hopak, which in Kurdish means "water dam" or "water barrier." The current Turkish name Koçtepe translates to "ram hill."
Administrative divisions: The hamlets of Yamaçlı, Yaylacık, and Yenice are attached to the village.
Demographics: The village is populated by Kurds of the Reşwan tribe. According to the Address-Based Population Registration System (ADNKS), the population was 484 in 2021. Historical population figures show a general decline over recent decades, from 1,509 in 1990 and 1,120 in 1985 to 466 in 2022.
Geography and environment: The village sits in an area with rugged terrain. In recent years, local residents initiated a tree-planting campaign, reportedly planting approximately 15,000 trees (including olive, oak, pine, and almond saplings) over a three-year period to reforest the surrounding slopes.
