Klützer Winkel (Amt)

The Amt Klützer Winkel was a former Amt (a type of administrative union of municipalities) in the district of Nordwestmecklenburg, in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It was named after the geographical region of Klützer Winkel.

History The Amt Klützer Winkel was established as an administrative collective for several smaller, independent municipalities in the Klützer Winkel region. Like many Ämter in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it was part of a process of administrative reform aimed at consolidating local governance. On January 1, 2005, the Amt Klützer Winkel was dissolved. Its member municipalities – Boltenhagen, Damshagen, Klütz (which was already a town and the seat of the Amt), Moor-Rolofshagen, and Zierow – were merged to form the new unified town of Klütz. This restructuring aimed to create more efficient and viable administrative units.

Geography The Amt was situated within the geographical region known as the Klützer Winkel, a picturesque peninsula on the Baltic Sea coast. This region is characterized by its rolling hills, agricultural landscapes, and proximity to the coast, making it a popular tourist destination. The town of Klütz, which eventually absorbed the former Amt's municipalities, serves as the central hub of this area.
