Kirk Rueter

Kirk William Rueter (born May 2, 1970) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 13 seasons, primarily with the San Francisco Giants, after debuting with the Montreal Expos.

Early life and education
Rueter was born in Vacaville, California. He attended Vacaville High School, where he excelled in baseball as a pitcher. He later played college baseball at the University of California, Riverside, before being drafted into professional baseball.

Professional career

Montreal Expos (1993)
Rueter made his MLB debut on June 5, 1993, with the Montreal Expos. He appeared in 13 games (four starts) during the 1993 season, posting a 3.54 earned run average (ERA).

San Francisco Giants (1994–2005)
In December 1993, Rueter was traded to the San Francisco Giants, where he spent the bulk of his career. Over 12 seasons with the Giants, he became known for his durability and control. He recorded a career-best 3.77 ERA in 1997 and posted a career-high 12 wins in 1996. Rueter made 643 regular‑season appearances (135 starts) for the Giants, compiling a win–loss record of 119–93 and an ERA of 4.36.

He pitched in the postseason for the Giants, including the 2002 World Series against the Anaheim Angels, making two relief appearances.

Los Angeles Dodgers (2005)
Rueter was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2005 season, appearing in 12 games (nine starts) before being released.

Retirement
Following his release, Rueter announced his retirement from professional baseball in early 2006.

Playing style
Rueter was a right‑handed pitcher noted for his command and ability to locate pitches on the corners of the strike zone. He relied primarily on a fastball in the low‑mid 90 mph range, a slider, and a changeup.

Post‑playing career
After retiring, Rueter worked as a baseball analyst for television and radio outlets in the San Francisco Bay Area. He also engaged in charitable activities, including youth baseball programs.

Personal life
Rueter is married and has children. He resides in Northern California.
