King Island is an island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta in San Joaquin County, California, United States. It is located approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) east of Antioch and 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of Stockton.
Geography
The island covers an area of approximately 1,300 hectares (3,200 acres). It is bounded on the north by White Slough, on the east by Bishop Cut, on the south by Disappointment Slough, and on the west by Honker Cut. The island is managed by Reclamation District 2044.
Location and Administration
King Island lies within San Joaquin County, in Northern California. Its coordinates are approximately 38°03′56″N 121°26′12″W. The island appears on a 1952 United States Geological Survey map of the area.
Usage and Access
The island is a leveed island in the Delta, primarily used for agriculture. It is accessible via local roads and is part of the network of reclaimed islands that form the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta region. The King Island Resort, a family-oriented recreational facility featuring a marina, boat rentals, and a bar and grill, is located on the island at 11530 West Eight Mile Road, Stockton, California.
Distinction from Kings Island
King Island should not be confused with Kings Island (formerly Bra's Island), a separate, much smaller 8.6-acre (3.5 ha) island located in the Old River in the southern portion of the Delta, approximately 9.3 miles (15 km) southwest of Stockton.
