Kim Hong-hee (born 1955) is a South Korean curator, art historian, and museum director known for her work in contemporary art and cultural institutions in South Korea.
Early life and education
Kim Hong-hee was born in 1955 in South Korea. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Seoul National University and later completed graduate studies in the United States, receiving a Master’s degree in Museum Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Career
- Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA): Kim served as the director of SeMA from 2008 to 2012, overseeing the museum’s collection development, exhibition programming, and outreach initiatives.
- National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA): In 2015, she was appointed director of the MMCA’s Seoul branch, where she directed major exhibitions and expanded international collaborations.
- International curatorial work: Kim has curated numerous international biennials and group exhibitions, including projects for the Gwangju Biennale and the Venice Architecture Biennale.
- Academic and advisory roles: She has held teaching positions at various Korean universities and served on advisory panels for cultural policy and heritage preservation.
