Kill Casino is an English rock band formed in the United Kingdom. The trio consists of Karen Luan (lead vocals and bass), Chris Ryan (guitar), and Paul‑Luc Gifford (drums). Their musical style incorporates elements of punk, alternative rock, and broader rock genres.
History
The band originated when Luan met Ryan and they began collaborating, leading to their first festival appearance at the Truck Festival in Oxford in 2006. In July 2006 the group started recording their debut album, which was produced over eight months across three recording studios under the guidance of Rob Haggett. Their debut album, I’ve Been To London To See The Queen, was released in September 2007 on the independent label Nothing Stays Golden (also distributed by Cargo Records). The album received favorable reviews from publications such as Kerrang! (4/5 Ks) and received airplay on BBC Radio 1, XFM, and Kerrang! TV. The single “Stolen Eyes” accompanied the album’s release and its video entered YouTube’s top‑100 most‑played artists list at the time.
In 2008 the band added drummer Paul‑Luc Gifford to the lineup. They supported notable acts on UK tours, including opening for Against Me! (2008) and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (2009). That same year they performed at several UK festivals, such as the Offset Festival. Their follow‑up release, the EP Paper Walls & The Voice Downstairs, arrived digitally on 10 August 2009 and physically on 17 August 2009. The EP earned a 7/10 rating from Rock Sound and another 4/5 Ks from Kerrang!, with critics highlighting its blend of slick punk‑rock energy and original songwriting.
