Keyboard is an American magazine that originally covered electronic keyboard instruments and keyboardists. Over time, with the advent of computer-based recording and audio technology, its coverage expanded to include digital music technology, including topics not strictly related to keyboard instruments. The magazine is headquartered in San Bruno, California.
History and profile
The magazine was launched in 1975 and was initially named Contemporary Keyboard. It was founded by Bud Eastman, who was also the publisher of the related publication Guitar Player. The magazine was published monthly in print form until 2017.
During its print run, the magazine covered a range of subjects, including historical information on the development of keyboards from their inception with pioneers such as Moog Music. Editorial and guest articles also addressed topics such as music philosophy, keyboarding instruction, music theory, and harmonics. The publication regularly featured advertisements and endorsements for high-tech audio gear, computer hardware, and software.
Stephen Fortner served as editor-in-chief from 2009 to September 2015, after which Gino Robair was named editor. In early 2017, the magazine transitioned from a standalone print publication to an online-only format. Jon Regen was made editor of Keyboardmag.com in March 2017.
The magazine is currently operated under the MusicRadar brand at musicradar.com/keyboardmag. Its ISSN is 0730-0158, and it is owned by Future US.
