Kevin Parker (born 20 January 1986) is an Australian musician, singer‑songwriter, multi‑instrumentalist and record producer, best known as the sole recorded member of the psychedelic music project Tame Impala. He writes, records and produces all of Tame Impala's music, and performs live with a backing band.
Early life and education
Kevin Lawrence Parker was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He attended the same primary school as future collaborator Nick Allbrook. Parker studied jazz drumming at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music but left before completing the program to focus on his own music.
Career
Early projects
Before forming Tame Impala, Parker was involved in several Australian indie groups, including The Dee Dee Dums (later known as Pond), where he played drums and contributed to songwriting.
Tame Impala
Parker launched Tame Impala in 2007 as a home‑recording project, releasing the debut EP Tame Impala (2008) and the first full‑length album Innerspeaker (2010). Subsequent albums include Lonerism (2012), Currents (2015), and The Slow Rush (2020). All three latter releases achieved critical and commercial success, reaching high positions on international charts and earning multiple awards, such as the ARIA Award for Album of the Year (2015) for Currents.
Production and collaborations
Beyond his own recordings, Parker has produced and co‑written for artists such as Lady Gaga (“A*A*R*”, 2020), Mark Ronson, and Travis Scott. He contributed to the soundtrack of the film The Great Gatsby (2013) with a remix of “Elephant”. Parker also collaborates regularly with his brother, Cameron Parker, and is a frequent guest vocalist and instrumentalist on projects by his long‑time friends the Australian band Pond.

Parker’s music blends elements of psychedelic rock, dream pop, synth‑pop, and funk. He frequently employs vintage analogue synthesizers, tape loops, and layered vocal harmonies. Influences cited by Parker include The Beatles, Pink Floyd, My Bloody Valentine, and 1970s funk and soul artists.
Live performances
While Parker records all parts of Tame Impala himself, live shows feature a rotating band that includes Cameron Avery (guitar), Julien Barbagallo (bass), and Domnyk (drums). The group has performed at major festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza.
