Kenya participated in the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, United States, from February 8 to 24, 2002. This marked the nation's second appearance at the Winter Olympic Games, following its debut at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.
Kenya's delegation consisted of a single athlete, Philip Boit, who competed in cross-country skiing. Boit also served as the nation's flag bearer during the opening ceremony.
Cross-country skiing
Philip Boit competed in two events during the games. In the Men’s 1.5 km sprint, he finished the qualifying round in 65th place with a time of 3:44.43, which did not allow him to advance to the quarterfinal rounds.
He also participated in the Men’s 2 x 10 km pursuit. In this event, athletes first completed a 10 km classical technique race; only the top 60 finishers were permitted to continue to the 10 km freestyle pursuit. Boit completed the 10 km classical portion in 36:21.6, finishing in 77th place, and therefore did not qualify for the second half of the event.
Kenya did not win any medals at these games. Following the 2002 Olympics, Kenya did not participate in the Winter Games again until the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.
