Kendra Haste is a contemporary British sculptor recognized for her specialized use of galvanized wire mesh to create life-sized animal figures. Her work focuses on the anatomical accuracy and spirit of wildlife, ranging from domestic animals to exotic species.
Haste graduated from the Camberwell College of Arts before earning her Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art in London in 1998. Her choice of medium, galvanized wire, allows for a layering technique that mimics the texture of fur and muscle while maintaining a sense of transparency and weightlessness.
She is most notably recognized for her permanent installation at the Tower of London, titled "The Royal Beasts." Commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces in 2011, the collection features thirteen wire sculptures of animals—including lions, baboons, and an elephant—commemorating the history of the Royal Menagerie that was once housed at the site.
Haste is a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA) and the Royal Society of Sculptors. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in various public and private collections, including the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She continues to live and work in the United Kingdom, producing pieces that explore the intersection of industrial materials and natural forms.
