Kelvin Manuel Gutiérrez (born August 28, 1994) is a Dominican professional baseball third baseman. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals and the Baltimore Orioles and is currently a member of the Conspiradores de Querétaro of the Mexican League.
Early life and professional entry
Gutiérrez was born in San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic. He signed with the Washington Nationals as an international free agent on April 10, 2013. Initially a shortstop, he was transitioned to third base within the Nationals organization.
Minor‑league development
Gutiérrez progressed through the Nationals’ farm system, debuting with the Dominican Summer League Nationals in 2013. He later played for the Gulf Coast Nationals (2014), the Auburn Doubledays (2015), the Hagerstown Suns (2016), and the Potomac Nationals (2016–2017). In 2017, Baseball America highlighted his defensive arm as the best among Nationals infielders. He also participated in the Arizona Fall League with the Mesa Solar Sox, leading the team with a .350 batting average.
Major‑league career
Kansas City Royals – On June 18, 2018, the Nationals traded Gutiérrez, Blake Perkins, and Yohanse Morel to the Royals for reliever Kelvin Herrera. After a strong start with the Triple‑A Omaha Storm Chasers in 2019, he made his MLB debut on April 27, 2019. In his rookie season, he posted a .260/.394/.356 slash line over 20 games. He appeared sparingly for Kansas City in 2020 and 2021, including a stint as the everyday third baseman in May 2021 before being designated for assignment on June 28, 2021.
Baltimore Orioles – Gutiérrez was acquired by the Orioles on July 3, 2021. He made his Orioles debut on July 7, becoming the first player in franchise history to wear number 82. He finished the 2021 season as Baltimore’s primary third baseman, hitting .248/.327/.336 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 47 games. In 2022, after a brief major‑league return, he was designated for assignment on May 2 and subsequently cleared waivers, remaining in Triple‑A before being released on September 15, 2022.
Mexican League
Gutiérrez signed with the Pericos de Puebla of the Mexican League on May 9, 2023, appearing in 18 games before his release on June 2. He then joined the Conspiradores de Querétaro on March 4, 2024. In his first season with Querétaro, he posted a .333/.408/.495 line with 11 home runs and 70 RBI over 87 games. He returned for a second season in 2025, improving to .345/.418/.595 with 19 home runs and 67 RBI in 80 games.
