Karpathos-Kasos (Greek: Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Καρπάθου - Ηρωϊκής Νήσου Κάσου, literally: "Regional Unit of Karpathos - Heroic Island of Kasos") is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the administrative region of the South Aegean. The regional unit covers the islands of Karpathos, Kasos, Saria, and several smaller islands in the Aegean Sea.
Geography
The regional unit has a total area of 374.3 km² (144.5 sq mi). It is located in the southeastern Aegean Sea and forms part of the Dodecanese island group. The capital of the unit is the town of Karpathos (Pigadia).
Demographics
According to the 2021 census, the population of Karpathos-Kasos was 7,790, yielding a population density of approximately 20.8 inhabitants per km².
Administration
As part of the 2011 Kallikratis government reform, the regional unit of Karpathos was created from part of the former Dodecanese Prefecture. It was officially renamed to Karpathos-Kasos in 2017. The regional unit is subdivided into two municipalities:
- Karpathos (including the island of Karpathos and Saria)
- Kasos (the island of Kasos)
Province
The province of Karpathos (Greek: Επαρχία Καρπάθου) was one of the provinces of the Dodecanese Prefecture and had the same territory as the present regional unit. It was abolished in 2006.
