Kariya Station (刈谷駅, Kariya-eki) is a railway station located in the city of Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It serves as a major transportation hub for the city and is operated jointly by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) and Meitetsu (Nagoya Railroad).
Lines Kariya Station is served by two different railway lines operated by separate companies:

Station Layout The station features a complex layout due to the presence of two different operators and their respective lines. Both companies' facilities are generally elevated.
JR Central The JR Central portion of the station consists of two island platforms serving four tracks. The platforms are elevated above street level.

- Platform 3: Tokaido Main Line (for Nagoya, Gifu, Ōgaki)

Meitetsu The Meitetsu portion of the station consists of one elevated island platform serving two tracks.
- Platform 1: Meitetsu Mikawa Line (for Chiryū, Toyotashi)
- Platform 2: Meitetsu Mikawa Line (for Hekinan)
Transfer between the JR Central and Meitetsu lines requires passengers to exit one company's ticket gates and enter the other's, though they are connected by a pedestrian walkway.
History
- September 1, 1888: The Japanese Government Railways (JGR) opens Kariya Station. This line later became part of the Tokaido Main Line.
- February 5, 1914: The Mikawa Railway (later Meitetsu) opens its Kariya-shin Station (刈谷新駅), which later merges or is renamed as the current Meitetsu Kariya Station, connecting to the Mikawa Line.
- October 1, 1987: With the privatization of JNR, the JR Central portion of the station comes under the control of Central Japan Railway Company.
- March 2007: The station undergoes a major renovation, including the construction of a new elevated station building and expanded commercial facilities.
Passenger Statistics In fiscal year 2019, the JR Central portion of the station was used by an average of 34,738 passengers daily (boarding passengers only), making it one of the busiest stations on the Tokaido Main Line in Aichi Prefecture outside of Nagoya. The Meitetsu portion was used by an average of 14,020 passengers daily.
Surrounding Area Kariya Station is situated in the central business district of Kariya city, which is known for its strong industrial presence, particularly in the automotive and manufacturing sectors. Many corporate headquarters and factories, including those of Toyota Industries and Denso, are located in or around Kariya.
