Kaong National High School (KNHS) is a public secondary school located in Barangay Kaong, Silang, Cavite, Philippines. It is under the Department of Education (DepEd) and is identified by school ID 301197.
History
The school traces its origins to 1970, when Mr. Pedro Oñate first proposed the establishment of a barangay high school to serve the residents of Kaong and surrounding areas, where poverty made high school education otherwise inaccessible. In 1973, Mr. Antonio Ramos (a retired Kaong Elementary teacher) and Mr. Sotero Pallera (former principal of Kaong Elementary School) revived the proposal. With the support of Barangay Captain Eduardo de Ramos, the barangay council, and district education officials, the school was formally founded in 1974 under the name Kaong Barangay High School.
At its inception, the school operated out of a single room borrowed from the local elementary school, with one teacher instructing all subjects to an initial enrollment of 24 students. The first graduating class, consisting of 21 students, completed their studies in 1977.
In 1983, a half-hectare parcel of land was acquired, and five classrooms were constructed. The school's location—central to the barangays of Maguyam, Sabutan, Tibig, Paligawan, Munting Ilog, and Bulihan—contributed to steady enrollment growth.
Nationalization
Prior to 1988, 70% of the school's funding came from Barangay Kaong, with the remaining 30% provided by the Municipality of Cavite. Following the enactment of the Free Public Secondary Education Act of 1988 (Republic Act No. 6655), Kaong Barangay High School was nationalized and renamed Kaong National High School.
Facilities and Operations
The school has since expanded to include 13 classrooms, along with science and administrative facilities. As of available records, the school operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Its contact number is (046) 865 1899, and its email address is [email protected].
