Kanuga Conference Center is a retreat and conference facility located near Hendersonville in western North Carolina, United States. The center occupies a rural campus of approximately 1,200 acres in the Appalachian foothills and is owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina.
History
The center was established in the late 1920s by the Episcopal Church as a summer camp and retreat destination for clergy, laypeople, and youth. Construction of the original buildings began in 1928, and the site opened for use in 1929. Over subsequent decades, the campus expanded to include additional lodging, dining, and conference facilities. In recognition of its historical and architectural significance, the Kanuga Conference Center Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
