Kamakhyanagar

Kamakhyanagar is a town (Notified Area Council) and a subdivision in the Dhenkanal district in the state of Odisha, India. It is located approximately 37 km north of Dhenkanal city.

Geography

Kamakhyanagar is situated at coordinates 20°56′N 85°33′E, at an elevation of 66 meters (217 feet) above sea level.

Demographics

According to the 2011 Indian census, Kamakhyanagar had a population of 16,810. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. The town has an average literacy rate of 73%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 81%, while female literacy is 65%. Approximately 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. The official language is Odia.

Administration and Politics

Kamakhyanagar is a subdivision within Dhenkanal district. It has its own assembly constituency (Kamakhyanagar Assembly Constituency) within the Dhenkanal Lok Sabha constituency. As of the 2024 state elections, the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is Sj. Satrughan Jena of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Previous MLAs include Prafulla Kumar Mallik of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), who held the seat in 2004, 2009, 2015, and 2019.
