Kaʻākaukukui station, also known as the Civic Center station, is a planned rapid transit station on the Skyline system in Honolulu, Hawaii. Managed by the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART), the station is located in the Kakaʻako district and is part of the third phase of the Honolulu Rail Transit project.
The station’s name, Kaʻākaukukui, is derived from the traditional Hawaiian ʻili (land division) of the area. In the Hawaiian language, the term literally translates to "the right (or north) light," which historically referred to a maritime navigation light located in the vicinity. The dual naming convention, incorporating both traditional Hawaiian names and English geographic identifiers, was adopted by HART to preserve local cultural history.
Geographically, the station is positioned to serve the Hawaii Capital Historic District, which includes the Hawaii State Capitol, Iolani Palace, and various municipal, state, and federal government buildings. It is also intended to provide transit access to the high-density residential and commercial developments within Kakaʻako.
As of 2024, the station is under development as part of the City Center segment of the rail line. This segment involves complex utility relocation and construction within Honolulu's urban core. While the first segment of the Skyline system began operations in 2023, Kaʻākaukukui station is scheduled to open in a later phase once construction through the downtown corridor is completed.
