Küçükkuyu is a town (belde) in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale Province, Turkey. It is located on the northern coast of the Gulf of Edremit (Edremit Körfezi), facing the Aegean Sea.
Geography The settlement is situated at the foot of the Kaz Mountains (Mount Ida) to the north. The region is characterized by olive groves, pine forests, and thermal springs. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry winters and mild, wet winters.
History The area has been inhabited since antiquity. It lies near the ancient city of Assos (Behramkale) and the historical region of Troas. During the Ottoman period, it developed as a coastal settlement known for its port activity and olive oil production. The name "Küçükkuyu" translates to "Small Well" in Turkish.
Economy The local economy is primarily based on tourism, olive cultivation, olive oil production, and fishing. The town serves as a local commercial center for surrounding villages. Thermal tourism is a developing sector due to the presence of hot springs in the vicinity.
Transportation Küçükkuyu lies on the İzmir–Çanakkale highway (D-550/E87), providing road connections to major cities such as İzmir, Balıkesir, and Çanakkale. The nearest airport is Balıkesir Koca Seyit Airport (Edremit), located approximately 20 kilometers away.
Population According to the Address-Based Population Registration System (ADNKS) data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the population of Küçükkuyu was 7,113 in 2023.
