Jussi Sainio is a Finnish name shared by several individuals. The most historically notable figure is Johan (Jussi) Walfrid Sainio (3 October 1880 – 31 August 1920), a Finnish pastry chef, trade union organiser, and politician.
Jussi Sainio (politician, 1880–1920)
Born in Pyhäjärvi Ul (now part of Karkkila, Finland), Sainio served as a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1908 to 1917, representing the Social Democratic Party of Finland. During the Finnish Civil War of 1918, he fought on the side of the Red (socialist) forces. After the defeat of the Finnish Socialist Workers' Republic, he fled to Soviet Russia, where he became one of the founders of the Communist Party of Finland (SKP). On 31 August 1920, Sainio was killed along with seven other Finnish communists during the Kuusinen Club Incident in Petrograd (now Saint Petersburg), an internal purge carried out by members of the SKP's so-called "revolver opposition."
