Jules Desrochers (30 June 1874 – 4 January 1939) was a Canadian politician, pharmacist, and physician. He served as a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada, representing the riding of Portneuf, Quebec.
Early Life and Education
Desrochers was born in Lotbinière, Quebec. He attended the Quebec Seminary and subsequently earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Université Laval in 1899. He practiced as a pharmacist and physician.
Political and Public Service Career
Desrochers served as mayor of Saint-Raymond, Quebec, from 1914 to 1921. He also served as president of the local school commission from 1908 to 1928.
He was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1930 federal election, winning the Portneuf riding with 7,813 votes (51.8%) against Conservative candidate J.-Alfred Foley. He served a single term in the 17th Canadian Parliament and did not seek re-election in the 1935 federal election.
Personal Life
Desrochers was married twice: first to Antonia Rinfret in October 1899, and later to Valencia Matte in March 1921. He died on 4 January 1939 at the age of 64.
