Juicio Final (2000)

Juicio Final (2000) (Spanish for "Final Judgment") was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) that took place on March 17, 2000, at Arena México in Mexico City, Mexico. The show was produced under the tagline Homenaje a Dos Leyendas: El Santo y Salvador Lutteroth ("Homage to Two Legends: El Santo and Salvador Lutteroth"), honoring CMLL founder Salvador Lutteroth and the legendary Mexican wrestler El Santo. This was the tenth time CMLL used the name "Juicio Final" for one of its major shows.

Background

Since 1996, CMLL has held a show each March to commemorate the passing of founder Salvador Lutteroth (who died in March 1987). From 1999 through 2004, the show paid homage to both Lutteroth and El Santo. The 2000 event was the fifth overall Homenaje a Dos Leyendas show. The "Juicio Final" name, used intermittently by CMLL since the mid-1950s, was applied as an event name or tagline for this show. All Juicio Final shows have been held at Arena México.

Event Summary

The show featured six matches. The main event was a Lucha de Apuestas (mask vs. mask match) between Villano III and Atlantis, which has been described as "the biggest Apuesta match of the decade." This match was voted the 2000 Match of the Year in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards. The card also included two six-man "Lucha Libre rules" tag team matches, a singles match, and a 16-man Torneo cibernetico elimination match (the Torneo Generación XXI).
