Juan Sastoque

Juan Sastoque (born June 26 1977) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a forward. He spent two seasons in Major League Soccer (MLS) and later played in various lower‑division leagues in the United States, as well as brief stints abroad in Peru and Spain.

Early life and education
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sastoque grew up in California and attended El Cajon Valley High School. He enrolled at California State University, Northridge, where he played for the men's soccer team in 1995 before turning professional the following year.

Professional playing career

  • 1996 – Began his professional career with the DFW Toros of the USISL, earning the league’s Rookie of the Year award.
  • 1997–1998 – Signed a MLS Project 40 contract and was allocated to the Dallas Burn. During his time with Dallas, he made five MLS appearances. He spent much of this period on loan to several USISL clubs, including the Dallas Toros, El Paso Patriots, and New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers, recording modest goal totals.
  • 1998 – Played for the MLS Project 40 team on loan, adding six goals in 19 appearances. He was waived by the Burn in November 1998.
  • 1999–2000 – Joined Juan Aurich in Peru’s Primera División and later CD Badajoz in Spain’s Segunda División, though detailed statistics for these spells are limited.
  • 2000–2002 – Returned to the United States, playing indoor soccer with the Dallas Sidekicks (World Indoor Soccer League and later the Major Indoor Soccer League), where he scored a hat‑trick in his second game.   • 2003 – Played for the Cincinnati Riverhawks in the USL A‑League, making 27 appearances and scoring five goals.

  • 2007–2008 – Joined Soccer Studio, an indoor team in the Premier Arena Soccer League.

Later life
After retiring from competitive play, Sastoque settled in Allen, Texas, where he works as a professional real‑estate agent alongside his wife, Bettina. He remains active in soccer at a recreational level, playing with his children.
