Josip Jurčević is a Croatian historian, academic, and politician. Born in 1953 in Studenci, Croatia, he is recognized for his research and publications concerning contemporary Croatian history, specifically the 20th century.
Jurčević completed his education at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb, where he earned his doctorate. His academic work primarily focuses on the Croatian War of Independence (Homeland War), the history of the Yugoslav communist regime, and the identification of victims of political repression. He has served as a professor at the University of Zagreb and has been affiliated with the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences.
In addition to his academic career, Jurčević has been active in Croatian political life. He participated as a candidate in the 2009–2010 Croatian presidential election. More recently, he was elected as a member of the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) in 2024, representing the Homeland Movement (Domovinski pokret).
Throughout his career, Jurčević has authored several books and scientific papers and has participated in various governmental and non-governmental commissions related to historical documentation and national heritage.
