Josh Sheehan

Joshua Luke Sheehan (born 30 March 1995) is a Welsh professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Bolton Wanderers, an English Football League (EFL) League One club, and the Wales national team.

Early life and youth career
Sheehan was born in Newport, Wales. He began his football development in the youth academy of his hometown club Newport County.

Club career

  • Newport County (2013–2021)
    Sheehan progressed through Newport County’s youth ranks and made his senior debut in 2013. Over eight seasons, he established himself as a regular starter, making over 200 league appearances and scoring 15 goals. He was part of the Newport side that reached the 2019 FA Cup fifth round, notably contributing to the club’s upset victory over Leicester City.

  • Bolton Wanderers (2021–present)
    On 7 June 2021, Sheehan signed a two‑year contract with League One club Bolton Wanderers. He debuted on 7 August 2021, scoring a 20‑yard free‑kick in a 3–3 draw against Milton Keynes Dons. Since joining Bolton, he has been a regular midfield presence, contributing both defensively and offensively, and helping the club achieve promotion to the EFL Championship in the 2022–23 season.

International career

Sheehan has represented Wales at various youth levels, including the under‑21 side. He earned his first senior cap on 6 October 2020 in a Nations League match against Finland. As of 2024, he has accumulated multiple appearances for the senior national team, primarily as a substitute midfielder.
