Joseph Parr

Joseph Parr (born c. 1888 or 1889 – died unknown) was an English professional footballer who played as a full-back. He is primarily known for his stints with Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers in the early 20th century.

Career Parr began his senior football career at Macclesfield, where his performances in the Manchester League garnered attention from larger professional clubs.

  • Manchester United: In May 1909, Parr signed with Manchester United. He made his debut for the club in November 1909 and quickly established himself as a regular in the defensive line-up. During his five seasons at Old Trafford (1909–1914), he made 107 league appearances and 10 FA Cup appearances, scoring 1 goal. Parr was a member of the Manchester United squad that won the First Division title in the 1910–11 season. While he was at the club during their 1909 FA Cup triumph, he did not feature in the final match.
  • Bolton Wanderers: In 1914, Parr transferred to Bolton Wanderers. His career at Bolton was significantly impacted by the outbreak of World War I, which led to the suspension of official league football. He managed to make 17 league appearances for Bolton before the professional game was halted.
  • Post-War Career: Following the cessation of World War I, Parr resumed his football career. He joined Stockport County, where he played 48 league matches and scored 1 goal between 1919 and 1921. He later moved to New Brighton in 1921, making 32 league appearances before the end of his professional playing career.

Playing Style Parr was regarded as a strong and reliable full-back, predominantly playing on the left side of the defence. He was known for his determined tackling and defensive capabilities.
