Joseph Jules Debrie was a French manufacturer of cinema cameras and projectors, best known as the founder of the company Debrie (Établissements J. Debrie).
Biography and Career
Debrie founded his company in Paris in 1898 (or 1900, depending on the source) at 111-113 Rue St Maur. The company originally focused on film laboratory equipment before expanding into motion picture cameras and projectors.
His most notable achievement was the development of the Parvo camera, which he patented on 19 September 1908. The Parvo was considered state-of-the-art cinema technology at the time and became a landmark in early motion picture equipment.
Company Succession
In 1918–1919, Debrie's son, André Debrie, took over control of the company. André continued and expanded the family business, further developing the range of cinema cameras and projectors under the Debrie name.
