The Joseph Damon House is a historic house located at 171 Lowell Street in Reading, Massachusetts, United States. Built around 1720, it is a well-preserved example of a First Period colonial residence and is one of the oldest standing structures in Reading. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 13, 1984, recognizing its architectural significance and its role in the local history of Reading.
The house is named after its original owner, Joseph Damon, a prominent local citizen during the early 18th century. Architecturally, it is a two-story, wood-frame structure featuring a central chimney, a common characteristic of First Period New England homes. Its design and construction reflect building practices from the earliest colonial settlement period, before the widespread adoption of more standardized Georgian styles. The house retains much of its original integrity, both externally and in its interior layout and detailing, making it a valuable resource for understanding early American domestic architecture.
