Jose Panganiban is a 4th class municipality in the province of Camarines Norte, Philippines. It is situated on the eastern coast of the Bicol Peninsula, facing the Pacific Ocean, and is bounded by the municipalities of Paracale to the north, Capalonga to the south, and the town of Daet to the west.
History
The settlement was originally known as Mambulao, a name derived from the local term for the mangrove species Rhizophora that once dominated its shoreline. In 1919, the town was renamed Jose Panganiban in honor of Dr. José María Panganiban (1863–1890), a Filipino propagandist, journalist, and revolutionary martyr who was executed in Bagumbayan (now Rizal Park) for his involvement in the anti‑Spanish movement.
