José Gregorio Osuna (born December 12 1992 in Trujillo, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan professional baseball player who primarily plays as an outfielder and first baseman. He has competed in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows.
Osuna signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates as an international free agent in December 2009 and began his professional career in the Venezuelan Summer League. He progressed through the minor‑league system, playing for teams such as the Gulf Coast League Pirates, State College Spikes, West Virginia Power, Bradenton Marauders, Altoona Curve, and Indianapolis Indians. The Pirates added him to their 40‑man roster after the 2016 season.
He made his MLB debut on April 18 2017 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his rookie year he posted a .233/.269/.428 slash line over 104 games. Over subsequent seasons (2018–2020) he split time between the majors and Triple‑A, achieving career‑highs of ten home runs and 36 runs batted in (RBI) in 2019. Osuna was designated for assignment on November 20 2020 and released three days later.
On November 26 2020 Osuna announced via Instagram that he had signed with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of NPB. He debuted in Japan on April 23 2021. As of the 2025 season, his NPB statistics include a .261 batting average, 87 home runs and 344 RBI. He was part of the Swallows’ Japan Series championship team in 2021 and signed a three‑year contract extension worth approximately $5.1 million in late 2021.
Osuna bats and throws right‑handed, wears number 13 for the Yakult Swallows, and continues to be active in professional baseball.
