Johannes Petrus "Jos" Ruijs (born November 22, 1948) is a Dutch former politician of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party. He is known for his roles as a Member of the House of Representatives and as a mayor.
Early Life and Education Born in Schiedam, Netherlands, Ruijs studied social pedagogy. Prior to his national political career, he was active in local politics in his hometown.
Political Career Ruijs began his political career at the municipal level in Schiedam. He served as a municipal councillor and later as an alderman (wethouder) for the municipality of Schiedam from 1982 to 1986.
In 1986, Ruijs was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal), the lower house of the Dutch parliament. He served two terms, from June 3, 1986, to May 17, 1994. During his time in parliament, he focused on social affairs, health, and welfare, serving as a spokesperson for the CDA faction on these topics.
After leaving national politics, Ruijs transitioned to mayoral roles. He served as the mayor of Haps from November 1, 1995, to January 1, 2001. Following the reclassification of Haps into the larger municipality of Cuijk, he became the mayor of Cuijk, a position he held from January 1, 2001, until November 1, 2007.
