Jorge Carlos Pacheco de Oliveira (born 16 December 1958), commonly known as Jorge Pacheco, is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played as a central midfielder. He is most notably recognized for his successful period with FC Porto in the 1980s.
Club Career
Born in Porto, Pacheco began his football career with his local club S.C. Salgueiros. He spent five seasons with the team, making his debut in the Primeira Divisão, Portugal's top football league.In 1981, Pacheco transferred to FC Porto, where he achieved the pinnacle of his playing career. He quickly established himself as a vital central midfielder, admired for his relentless work rate, precise passing, and leadership qualities. During his six seasons at Porto, he contributed significantly to the club's dominance, securing two Primeira Divisão titles (1984–85, 1985–86), one Taça de Portugal (1983–84), and four Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira trophies. He was also a member of the FC Porto squad that famously won the European Cup in the 1986–87 season, departing the club shortly after their historic triumph.
Following his illustrious spell at Porto, Pacheco moved to Sporting CP in 1987, where he played for two seasons. He then had a brief stint with Académica de Coimbra for the 1989–90 season before concluding his professional career with Leixões S.C., retiring from active football in 1992.
International Career
Pacheco earned 19 caps for the Portugal national team, scoring one goal during his international career. He made his debut for the national side in 1983. He was included in the Portuguese squad that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 1984, though his playing time was limited. He also represented Portugal at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, featuring in two group stage matches.Honours
