Jordan Uelese

Jordan Uelese (born 13 February 1997) is a New Zealand‑born professional rugby union player who represents Australia at international level. He primarily plays as a hooker.

Early life and education
Uelese was born in Auckland, New Zealand, and attended Saint Kentigern College, where he played school‑level rugby. He later moved to Australia to pursue a professional rugby career.

Club career

  • Auckland (2016–2017): Uelese made his senior debut in New Zealand's Mitre 10 Cup, appearing in 9 matches for Auckland and scoring one try.
  • Canberra Vikings (2017–2020): After relocating to Australia, he joined the Canberra Vikings in the National Rugby Championship (NRC), accumulating 17 appearances and three tries.
  • Brumbies (2018–present): Uelese signed with the ACT Brumbies for Super Rugby. As of the end of the 2023 season, he has played over 70 matches for the franchise, contributing both in the set‑piece and open play.

International career
Uelese qualified to play for Australia through residency. He earned his first cap for the Australian national team, the Wallabies, on 2 July 2021 during the July test series against Fiji. By the close of 2023, he had earned multiple caps, primarily serving as a backup hooker and participating in World Cup qualification matches.

Playing style
Uelese is noted for his mobility around the field, accurate line‑out throwing, and work rate in rucks and mauls. His relatively quick breakdown speed is considered an asset for modern hookers.

Personal life
Uelese is of Samoan heritage. Outside of rugby, he has been involved in community outreach programs promoting youth participation in sport.
