Joni Nikko (born May 31, 1994) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who primarily plays as a forward. Born in Vaasa, Finland, Nikko is known for his tenure in the Liiga, the premier professional ice hockey league in Finland, as well as his contributions to the Finnish national junior teams.
Early Career and Liiga Nikko began his youth hockey career with his hometown club, Vaasan Sport, before moving to the youth system of Lukko Rauma. He made his professional debut in the SM-liiga (now Liiga) during the 2011–2012 season with Lukko. Over the following decade, he established himself as a consistent presence in Finnish professional hockey, representing several clubs including Lukko, SaiPa, KalPa, and Vaasan Sport. Throughout his career in the Liiga, he was recognized for his physical style of play and his ability to contribute as a winger.
International Play Nikko represented Finland in several international junior tournaments. His most notable achievement on the international stage occurred in 2014, when he was a member of the Finnish national under-20 team that won the gold medal at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships held in Malmö, Sweden.
Later Career In the later stages of his career, Nikko expanded his professional experience beyond Finland. He has spent time playing in various European leagues, including the Swedish HockeyEttan with Borås HC and the Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL) with Bregenzerwald.
As a professional athlete, Nikko's career has been characterized by his longevity in the Finnish top-tier league and his success within the Finnish national team's developmental system.
