Jonathon Robran (born 21 October 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn and Essendon in the Australian Football League (AFL).
Robran was mostly a key position defender during his league career but could also play as a ruckman. He is the son of South Australian football great Barrie Robran and the younger brother of Adelaide player Matthew Robran.
Early career and drafting: Robran attended Marryatville High School and played junior football with the Walkerville Football Club. He played for Norwood's underage teams and made his league debut in the 1992 Foundation Cup pre-season series. Despite being selected by Hawthorn with pick number 11 in the 1992 AFL National Draft, Robran initially chose to stay with Norwood in the SANFL.
AFL career: Although drafted in 1992, Robran did not play an AFL game until 1995. He suffered from shoulder problems in 1996 but played every game in the 1997 season and remained a regular fixture in the team over the next two years. With the emergence of promising young key defenders Trent Croad and Jonathan Hay, Robran found it difficult to secure a spot and was traded to Essendon in 1999 in a three-club deal. At Essendon, he managed only four appearances during the club's dominant 2000 premiership season, including filling in for an injured Dustin Fletcher at full-back for the final three home-and-away matches. He was delisted at the end of the 2001 season.
Later career: Robran returned to Norwood in the SANFL, where he played until 2004. He earned a state guernsey in 2003 for a clash with Western Australia in Perth.
