Jonathan Reynolds

Jonathan Reynolds (born 2 November 1980) is a British politician who has served as the Secretary of State for Business and Trade and President of the Board of Trade since July 2024. A member of the Labour Party and the Co-operative Party, he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stalybridge and Hyde since the 2010 general election.

Born in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear, Reynolds attended Manchester Metropolitan University, where he studied politics and modern history. He later completed a Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School. Before entering national politics, he worked as a solicitor and served as a local councillor for the Longdendale ward on the Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council from 2007 to 2011.

In the House of Commons, Reynolds has held several prominent roles on the opposition frontbench. Under the leadership of Keir Starmer, he was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in 2020, before transitioning to the role of Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Trade in 2021. Following the Labour Party's victory in the 2024 general election, he was appointed to the Cabinet of the United Kingdom.

His political work has primarily focused on economic policy, industrial strategy, and regional development. He is a member of the Labour Party's moderate wing and has frequently advocated for strong industrial partnerships between the government and the private sector.
