Early life

Hedström was born on December 27, 1977, in Skellefteå, Sweden. He developed his hockey skills within the youth system of his hometown club, [[Skellefteå AIK]].

Playing career

Hedström began his professional career with Skellefteå AIK in the 1995–96 season, then playing in Sweden's second-tier league, HockeyAllsvenskan. He quickly established himself as a promising forward and eventually moved to [[Elitserien]] (now SHL), playing for [[Luleå HF]] and [[Timrå IK]].

He was drafted by the [[Pittsburgh Penguins]] in the ninth round (230th overall) of the [[1999 NHL Entry Draft]]. Despite being drafted by Pittsburgh, he eventually signed with the [[Mighty Ducks of Anaheim]] (now [[Anaheim Ducks]]) as a free agent.

National Hockey League

Hedström made his NHL debut during the [[2002–03 NHL season]] with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. He played two seasons with Anaheim, contributing to their [[2003 Stanley Cup Finals]] run, where they ultimately lost to the [[New Jersey Devils]]. During the [[2004–05 NHL lockout]], he returned to Sweden to play for Timrå IK.

Following the lockout, Hedström joined the [[Dallas Stars]] for the [[2005–06 NHL season]]. He played one season with the Stars before returning to Europe. His NHL career spanned 146 regular season games, where he recorded 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points, along with 10 Stanley Cup playoff games, scoring 1 goal and 2 assists.

Return to Europe

After his NHL tenure, Hedström enjoyed a successful return to Europe. He played for [[CSKA Moscow]] in the [[Russian Superleague]] (RSL) and later in the newly formed [[Kontinental Hockey League]] (KHL). He also had further stints with Timrå IK and Skellefteå AIK in the SHL, where he was a prominent offensive player and a fan favorite.

Hedström officially retired from professional hockey in 2011.

International play

Hedström represented [[Sweden men's national ice hockey team|Sweden]] at various international tournaments, including the [[IIHF World Championship]]. He was part of the Swedish squad that competed in the [[2004 IIHF World Championship]] and the [[2007 IIHF World Championship]].

Personal life

After retiring from hockey, Hedström has been open about his struggles with [[depression]] and mental health. He has since become an advocate for mental health awareness in sports, sharing his experiences to help others.
