John Service (swimmer)

John Service (October 3, 1908 – December 10, 1964) was a Canadian competitive swimmer who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Service was a prominent Canadian swimmer during the early 1930s. He represented Canada at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, where he participated in three events:

  • Men's 400 metre freestyle: He advanced to the semifinals of this event.
  • Men's 1500 metre freestyle: He also reached the semifinals in this longer distance event.
  • Men's 4x200 metre freestyle relay: Service was a member of the Canadian relay team, which finished fourth in the final. His teammates were George Larson, Munroe Bourne, and Walter Spence.

Service's participation in the 4x200 metre freestyle relay marked a significant achievement for Canadian swimming at the time, with the team narrowly missing a medal. After his competitive career, Service remained involved in the swimming community. He passed away in Toronto in 1964.
