John Hatch (basketball, born 1962)

John Hatch (born 1962) is a former American professional basketball player and high school coach, primarily known for his collegiate career at the University of Arizona.

Early Life and College Career Born in 1962, John Hatch matriculated at the University of Arizona, where he played forward for the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team from 1980 to 1984. Standing 6'6" (1.98 m), he was a significant contributor to the Wildcats, particularly during the formative years of coach Lute Olson's highly successful tenure. Hatch was recognized for his strong defensive play, rebounding ability, and leadership on the court. He was a consistent starter and key player throughout his four years, helping to lay the groundwork for Arizona's future basketball success.

Professional Career Following his collegiate career, Hatch was selected in the 1984 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was drafted in the fifth round as the 97th overall pick. Despite being drafted, Hatch did not play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Instead, he pursued a professional career internationally, competing in various European basketball leagues, including in Italy.

Post-Playing Career and Recognition After his professional playing career concluded, Hatch transitioned into coaching. He notably served as a high school basketball coach, including a tenure at Tucson High School in Tucson, Arizona. His contributions to the University of Arizona's basketball program and local sports have been recognized, leading to his induction into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame.
